I am a historian focusing on disasters in the Soviet Union.
My current research topic is the interplay of agricultural development and weather and climatic extreme events in the steppes regions of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan in particular in the XXth century.
I hold a doctorate from Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales in France. In my dissertation, completed in 2007, I explored the liberation, return, and rehabilitation of Gulag prisoners after Stalin's death in 1953.
