Today colonization is both a stake of memory and an historical subject. Within the scientific community opposing opinions don’t always differentiate between these two aspects. Thus, an objective study is necessary, and all the more so as this phenomenon concerns not only France, but also other European countries such as Belgium and Italy. In this context, I have chosen to direct my research towards the little known history of law and justice in the Maghreb.
