About
I am a Social Anthropologist, researching in the field of Medical Anthropology. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Cermes3 (Centre for Research on Medicine, Sciences, Health, Mental Health and Society – CNRS UMR8211/Inserm U988/University Paris Descartes/EHESS), Paris/Villejuif, France.
I am also a correspondant researcher in two institutions: the CNRS French Centre of Archaeology and Social Sciences of Sanaa (Yemen) and of the GReCSS team, within the Norbert Elias Centre (CNRS/EHESS Marseille, France).
My current research activities are dedicated to anthropology of genetics and genomics:
- in the Arabian Peninsula (Sultanate of Oman), where my work focuses on local stakes of genetic knowledge, on its clinical uses and on inherited blood disorders;
- online, in Northern countries, through a netnography of the uses of direct-to-consumer genetic testing (UK, USA, France): I’m a member of TeGALSI (Research project « Direct to consumer genetic testing: motives, developments and consequences »), led by Pascal Ducournau, Inserm Toulouse, France and funded by IReSP (http://tegalsi.hypotheses.org).
I have been teaching Anthropology as Assistant Lecturer in Paris Diderot University in 2007-2008 and in the Sorbonne College of Social Sciences of Paris Descartes University (http://www.parisdescartes.fr), in 2010-2011.
I am a member of the French Association of Ethnology and Anthropology (AFEA), the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA) and the American Anthropological Association (AAA).
Within EASA, I have been elected, together with Susann Huschke (Freie Universität Berlin, Germany), as students and young researchers representative for medical anthropology. Susann Huschke and I have founded MAYS, Medical Anthropology Young Scholars (http://www.mays-easa.org), a European network of more than 250 students and postdocs in Medical Anthropology.
